Pine Valley Enters Agreement With its Mining Contractor

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 5, 2006) - Pine Valley Mining Corporation (TSX:PVM)(OTCBB:PVMCF) (the "Company" or "Pine Valley") is pleased to announce that it has negotiated a new contract with Tercon Mining PV Ltd. ("Tercon"), the Company's mining services provider. The agreement provides for continued provision of mining services until June 30, 2007, at current unit rates, and maintains the possibility of discussing a longer term arrangement but not the requirement to do so.

Bob Bell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pine Valley, said, "We are very pleased with this agreement because it provides a stable mining situation for an extended period. This is an important development for the company as we build a platform for added shareholder value."

This news release contains certain "forward-looking statements", as defined in the United States Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995, that involve a number of risks and uncertainties including but not limited to economic, competitive, governmental and geological factors effecting the Company's operations, markets, products and prices and other risk factors.

Hilton has backing of home town

VISUALLY-impaired Greenock chess wizard Stephen Hilton will represent Inverclyde when he jets off to India for the World Championships tomorrow.

The 44-year-old Morton fan, who damaged his sight during an accident as a child, will battle it out at the world event against around 150 other blind or visually-impaired chess players from approximately 40 countries.

The event will be held in Goa, India, and will run from Sunday to 19 October over nine rounds.

He said: "A world Championship is the pinnacle for anyone in any sport and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead.

"I have prepared for the event with the help of International master Richard Palliser and International Master of Correspondence Chess Kenny Harman. These players have helped me in my opening preparation for this event.

Builders, developers merge lobby groups

Land developers and home builders hope the merger of their two industry groups will help them to lobby governments more effectively by giving them a more powerful voice.

The Greater Toronto Home Builders Association has joined with the Urban Development Institute to create a combined entity of 1,500 builders, developers and related companies.

The opposition that builders and developers face in creating new housing developments is "relentless," says Stephen Dupuis, the chief executive officer of the combined organization, which doesn't have an official name yet. "Somebody has to be responsible for housing choice, housing affordability -- just plain supply."

Mr. Dupuis, who had been executive vice-president of the GTHBA, notes that the institute's 125 members are "a very key and strategic part of the business," with lots of consultants and specialists on the land side.
