A Tsimshan Polychromed Wood Face Mask is seen in this recent Sotheby's handout photo. The multi-coloured portrait mask carved by an anonymous 19th-century Tsimshian artist on Canada's West Coast has sold for a record US$1.8 million at Sotheby's in New York, breaking all records for an Indian object selling at auction. .

An open letter regarding Brian Oneto

Though I am not a resident of District 5 in Amador County, I urge voters in that district to vote for Brian Oneto in this year's runoff election. I have known Brian for about 25 years and in the last 13 years I have worked with him as a client and as a contractor for other clients of mine.

I have been impressed with Brian's interest in the sustainable management of forest land and for his dedication to harvesting timber in a manner that ensures protection of all natural resources. His family's forest land holdings are testimonies to the concept of good forest stewardship. As a contractor that I have hired to work on other people's forest land, Brian has shown me that he is a conscientious and honorable person that treats people fairly and is concerned with the condition of other people's land.
